Postini info

Recently the Postini application was added to our e-mail server which is hosted by eApps. Postini was acquried by Google in July 2007.

The first announcement e-mail

The first e-mail you will receive about Postini is from eApps Hosting Support. You will receive one as soon as an e-mail is addressed to your mailbox  that says “eApps Hosting has Activated your New Mail Services!” This announces the activation of the spam filter account. It is not necessary to sign in to the account unless you don’t agree with the filtering process, want to approve a sender, or are just curious.

If you have multiple e-mail mailboxes, you will receive one for each mailbox. My recommendation: only use a limited number of mailboxes to make your administration easier. If you want to confirm with me which mailboxes have been created, let me know and I’ll send a list.

Daily quarantine summaries

You will also receive a daily Quarantine Summary e-mail with all of the spam that has been stopped and be given the option to deliver it from that e-mail for each mailbox you have.  E-mail you may want delivered could be either advertisements that are easily caught or from an e-mail address you want always delivered but was identified as spam.

Filtering

There are four major filters active: Sexually Explicit, Get Rich Quick, Too-good-to-be-true offers and Racially Insensitive. Each is set to a lenient setting and can be set to be more aggressive. Viruses are quarantined but no e-mail will be sent when one is found. The filter can also be turned off if you do not want filtering at all. After receiving between 20 and 30 spam e-mails a day, I’m liking that I only have to read one e-mail and then delete it if I agree with the filter.
